Ajeeb Daastaans – Netflix

Before you read this article, be aware that this is not a review. This is my observation of the society through a movie.

Karan Johar is riding the new wave, that he himself created, of anthology movies. I personally feel it is a good thing to watch four crisp short stories of 30 minutes each rather than watch an unnecessarily elongated movie of 90 – 120 minutes with non-required item numbers, comic situations and unrealistic action sequences.

After Lust Stories and Ghost Stories, the combination of RSVP Movies and Netflix decided to translate their next anthology movie title from ‘Strange Stories’ to Urdu and retitled it as ‘Ajeeb Daastaans’. Trust me when I tell you, there is nothing Ajeeb about these four tales. Characters like Babloo, Sushil, Priya and Natasha have always been around us. It’s us who haven’t noticed what goes on in their lives. It is strikingly similar to how we do not acknowledge what goes on in our own lives many a times. Continue reading

Wonder

I wonder what motivates people.

Is it the unknown feeling of accomplishment? Or may be the urge to know the unknown? What is unknown? Everything that we do not know, and it is so much. One lifetime is too less to know everything there is. People don’t even roam around the entire world and yet there have been quite a few who have roamed the moon. They have seen the earth in its entirety, in its little existence that seems so big to us who live on it. Continue reading

Surprised, not so much.

I have been surprised multiple times today. So much that I have had to take out time to put it in writing because I didn’t want to lose the essence of this feeling that is with me since last night. It feels as if I am on a constant high since the two beers I had last night. By the way, I rarely drink more than one 50 cl each night when I am in Dubai.

I am surprised by the amount of energy I am showing of late at work. Taking back to back flights for work, working tirelessly, getting responsibilities like never before and ending up getting things done, one way or another. Future has never looked busier, if not better. Continue reading

On The Rocks!

The word ‘Magic’ can be associated with very few things in the world. The things that you look forward to all the time because when you did it for the first time, it was magical. For example, first kisses are always magical, first hugs as well, if done properly.

In 1999, I was thirteen years old when I had my first magical experience. I was spending summer vacations at Grandpa’s home in a village near Indo-Pak Border in Rajouri sector. The trip was magical and life altering in many ways. Continue reading

Endnote

The way people end a relationship tells a lot about the other party in it. Their reactions at the very end are mere reflections of each other when it all boils down to the level of extracting salt and chlorine from the days they spent together, and largely enjoyed.
I fell in love with you at the first sight. No doubt you were a mess, but I saw the beauty in you and took it upon myself to bring out the best in you. People say I have succeeded in doing so. They say you look great now, much better than ever. I practiced several details inside my head before I shared my wisdom with you.
Now, that I am leaving you, I am worried a bit. Continue reading

Back Again

How do I justify myself of my ignorance towards regular writing?
All I have written are two posts in the last one year. This is crazy. I haven’t been so busy, I have just stopped caring about it. This is unacceptable. There have been times when I have handled a lot on my plate, have bit into more than I could chew and swallow but during none of those times in the past year I have given preference to write.
Why? This is the question I ask myself today and have no answer to, not yet. Continue reading

Non Existential Tomorrow

Four months ago, I decided to write a blog post every alternative day and I ended up not writing even one during all this time. I suck at meeting deadlines and yet I arrive everywhere right on time. Two absolutely contrasting constraints, one would say. This is my problem and I must deal with it, for the rest of my life. What you can do, for now, is to stop delaying things until tomorrow, especially the ones you can do today. Continue reading

44640

I have started to sleep less since last week not because I have to wake up an hour earlier than usual, but because I do not want to miss the fun in life by sleeping earlier than usual. I have started to run as well on weekends and I look forward to it. Since I moved back to Dubai in 2014, I have made quite a few friends from all walks of life. There were 8 of us in a closed group, 4 couples. Continue reading

External Benefits

Funny incidents take place between me and my wife all the time. She would reach out and hold my hand while we wait at a red signal and won’t let go even when the signal turns green. She would bend herself in a pretty awkward and uncomfortable position to keep her head at my shoulder while I am driving. She would drop her hairpin, comb or hairband under her seat to be handed over to me by the car cleaners at a petrol station. Continue reading
