Thoughts have wings.

Imagination has the power to cross billions of light years of distance in a mere millisecond. It beats the speed of light, and that too, every moment. Put anyone at the job of imagining and jotting down what he imagines and you will end up with chaos on paper. It would make no sense. Unguided imagination is chaotic and follows no laws of physics though it uses a physical instrument, brain, to imagine. Continue reading

Reboot

This has to be the longest duration of time I have been absent from the blog. It is not that I didn’t want to write, but when do we ever get what we want? I just couldn’t or perhaps I should write, I just didn’t. When the number of people around you grows, you start thinking about them rather than thinking about yourself. Parties, night outs, traveling, discussions, misunderstandings and judgments take the front seat and send personal growth, reading, writing, responding to the rear. Shall not happen again. This is no excuse for not being able to write one post every other day. How do I plan to get better if I do not do what I am bad at. Practice maketh the man perfect but it is the manners that maketh the man in the first place. If I do not mannerize myself to write, when would I write bad and if I do not write bad, when would I get better and finally, if I do not get better, who will read me? Continue reading

The Torn Earlobe

‘I didn’t mean to tear apart his earlobe!’ I said to my cousin.

‘Oh comeon! You continuously hit him right on his ear!’ He said, reminding me that it was me who was in trouble, yet again.

‘So, what do we do now?’ I asked my cousin who was equally terrified.

‘Let’s go to Nowshera I say, without telling anyone. There would be no way for them to know we are there. Dada doesn’t have a telephone at his home’, he said.

Kiss of Love

Marriages are tough to manage and if it is an Indian marriage, God be with you. Aniket was looking for his one chance since morning to kiss Kaajal whereas she had kept herself busy with something or the other, and necessarily so. Managing the wedding of your younger sister is no small task. Each and every relative has to be given the highest level of importance or else the taunts shall be made at the poor wedding planning for at least a decade. In some cases, those were the kids of the couple getting married who grew up enough to tell the grown-ups to stop acting childish. Kaajal didn’t want to be blamed for anything. She was making sure every guest was well fed because, logically, that is what Indian weddings are all about. Continue reading

Motherhood

The problem was not that she was about to deliver a baby, the problem was that she was unmarried. Though being unmarried and delivering a baby is not a crime in the eyes of law, but it is one of the most heinous crimes in the eyes of society in India. The crime becomes a little more intolerable when the woman who is unmarried and about to deliver a baby comes from a lower caste of the society. In such a case, everyone gets to say something about the vulgarity and unacceptability of the act. I wonder at times, if it is encoded in our genes to reproduce in order to make sure the survival of our species, why does the act of reproduction, be it having sex without marriage or delivering a baby without being married, happen to be such a big taboo if it is not performed by the consent of the family members or the society?

Bindiya’s case was a little different. Even before Bindiya could figure out what was wrong with her, she was three months pregnant. Sulakshana, her mother, took her to a local dispensary when Bindiya complained of missing her periods for the third time in three consecutive months. Continue reading

Peace

“Dude, they started again!” whispered Sahil, making a gesture to come over to both Raaghav & Gautam.

Gautam went near the window to hear what was happening. Raaghav just shook his head and continued trying to study despite the loud voices coming from the neighbouring apartment. It was an everyday routine. Raaghav had no interest in listening to what allegations were being made this time. He plugged in his ear phones and allowed A R Rahman to take over his senses.

On the other side of the wall, Chirag & Nandini were having an usual evening. Chirag had forgot to bring something from the list of groceries Nandini handed him in the morning while leaving for work. Now, all of a sudden, that one missed thing had become the most important ingredient in whatever Nandini had to cook for dinner. After the argument, Chirag left the apartment, banging the door close behind him. Continue reading

An Asshole & A Faithful

It was June 2011, I was working in UAE. I was taking driving classes to obtain my driving license and believe me, getting a driving license in UAE is one hell of a task. I’d been taking classes for the last four months, failed three tests and was paying a sum equivalent of INR 10,000 every week to pay for the extra classes and take up the test again. One morning, I was waiting for my turn to drive for the road test to get my driving license. I failed the test yet again, but witnessed an amazing incident in parts for about 3 hours while I waited for my turn to drive. So, here’s how it went: Continue reading

A Dog Is A Dog Is A Dog

‘A dog is a dog for every dog but a human is not human for every human.’ – Rob

——————————-

Rob was a regular street dog. He was lean, fit, cruel & independent. On any given day, he was able to outrun any number of dogs in his locality. Rob was the best when it came to survival. He had been surviving all the risks of living in streets and facing dangerous situations everyday all by himself. He never lived in a single street for a longer period of time. He had two reasons for that. First, staying at one place for a longer time and surviving successfully makes other dogs jealous. Second, he liked reaching a new place and mark his own territory, again and again, every time. He was a regular street dog, but he considered himself no less than a tiger. Continue reading

Being : ‘Ethical’

Ethic is a strong word, like a huge metal chain, tying people to their respective social limitations and instructing them to perform according to the ethics which were fed to them when they didn’t even know the meaning of the word ‘ethic’ itself. There are thousand of codes of ethics for a human being, spread across various stages of his life. Our elders, religions, societies and governments have successfully drawn out ‘code of ethics’ to maintain the normal functionality of the system but, still they find it hard to maintain the balance, revolts break out, thefts & murders happen continuously. Being : ‘Joyful’

Joy is a language that we have completely forgotten. We have been forced to forget it, compelled to. Actually, sometimes I feel the society is against joy, the entire civilization is against it. The society invests tremendously in misery, it depends on misery, it feeds on misery, it survives on misery. It feels like the society is not for human beings but it is using human beings as a means for itself. The society has become more important than humanity. The culture, the civilization have become more important. They were meant to be for the humans, but now they are not, the process has reversed, now humans exist for them. Continue reading
